Black Ruby plum (Japanese)
Large Japanese plum with dark red skin and yellow flesh that is well adapted to humid climates of southeast USA, thanks to USDA breeding programs led by WR Okie in the 1980s/90s. Unlike other Japanese plums which are “clingstone,”, Black Ruby is a “freestone” plum, meaning the flesh separates easily from the pit.
Rootstock: Myrobylan
Size at maturity: 16-20’
Pollination: Plant with a different Japanese plum that blooms at the same time to ensure pollination.
